A -23-year-old man, Saheed Akangbe, was on Wednesday, 28 May, 2014, sentenced to two years imprisonment by an Abeokuta Magistrate’s Court, sitting in Isabo.
According to the court proceedings, the accused and others now at large were alleged to have stolen a Bajaj motorcycle marked OGUN FFF 187QC and valued at N115,000 on May 19, 2014 at Obada-Oko in Abeokuta.
The stolen motorcycle was said to belonged to one Lawal Hammed.
The Magistrate’s court records stated that Akangbe was arraigned on May 26, 2014 on two counts of conspiracy and stealing.
According to the police prosecutor, Banji Sangotokun, the offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 516 and Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State of
The accused, who confessed that he had been jailed for two years for theft, from 2012 till he was released this year, however, pleaded guilty to all charges leveled against him.
The Investigating Police Officer, Moronfolu Olumide, told the court that the motorcycle which the accused stole was recovered at Ijoko-Ota in Sango area.
The Chief Magistrate, Anthony Araba, after listening to the accused, noted that the gravity of the charges was 14 years imprisonment, however, considered the plea of the accused and sentenced him to two years imprisonment on each count which he said would run concurrently.
He later ordered the release of the motorcycle to the original owner.
